MatterCups are made of a 100% polypropylene (PP) plastic material. PP is a food-grade plastic that is 100% recyclable, BPA-free, lightweight, durable, tasteless, withstanding of hot and cold temperatures, and dishwasher safe.
It might seem counterintuitive, but the plastic material polypropylene (PP) is currently the most sustainable alternative for our reusable coffee to-go system for a number of reasons:
The durability of the material PP makes each MatterCup shatter-proof and extremely difficult to break, extending each cup’s lifespan and allowing each MatterCup to be reused up to 1,000 times. One MatterCup can pass through approximately 1,000 dishwasher cycles before being recycled, thereby replacing up to 1,000 single-use cups.
In comparison to the manufacturing and recycling systems needed to process other types of plastic, PP requires comparably low energy consumption and the material itself is easily and completely recyclable.
MatterCups are light, durable, stackable, and tasteless, creating the optimal experience for both consumers and our partners.
Yes – MatterCup is safe to be used for serving both hot and cold drinks.
Our deposit system only works if its users return the cup after use. Because of this, we cannot give back the $1 deposit unless the cup and lid are returned.
Small scratches, scrapes, or other cosmetic imperfections that don't harm the functionality of the cup won't hinder you from getting your $1 deposit back. Unfortunately, if the returned cup has been damaged to the extent that it can no longer be used by others, the cup will not be eligible for a deposit return. Baristas will only hand out fully functional cups with your order. Luckily, our material makes the cup extremely difficult to damage – just don't run it over with your car, but you could do basically anything else!
No problem! Just remember to drop it off next time to get your deposit back.
